Information for April and the Summer
ReadWriteThink.org is proud to announce that Learning Beyond the Classroom, our site designed to help children and teens continue to build their literacy learning outside of school, is growing.
The site now offers even more activities for children ages 4 to 18. In addition, the site includes booklists, reading logs, book review podcasts, and best practice videos to help caregivers and tutors make the most of summer reading and writing opportunities. To see all of these features and more, please visit http://www.readwritethink.org/beyondtheclassroom/summer/.
ReadWriteThink.org is a nonprofit website maintained by the International Reading Association and the National Council of Teachers of English, with support from the Verizon Foundation and in association with the Thinkfinity.org program.
We thank you for your support of the Learning Beyond the Classroom project and hope that you will help us spread the word about this great resource.
Friday, April 18th:
Making the Lie Believable: A Teen Writing Workshop
2:00-4:00 in the Community Meeting Room
In a workshop he calls "Making the Lie Believable", award winning Canadian author David A. Poulsen shares with young writers the techniques successful authors use to create believable settings and characters…and stories so real, readers are pulled right into the pages! And after that great (and believable) story/novel is written--what then??
Bring something to write with and something to write on--we suggest a pen and paper! Call 380-7310 to register, as space is limited.
This program is part of the Alberta Writers-in-Residence Project, a joint project of the Library Association of Alberta and the Writers Guild of Alberta.
Saturday, April 19: Open Mic
3:00 in the Community Meeting Room
Fame! Glory! Free Snacks!
Whether you have the soul of a poet, or think you’re the next Canadian Idol, there’s a place for you at our Open Mic. Come sing, play acoustic, or read your own writing (poetry or stories). Grab YOUR five minutes of fame, and join us for our first Magnetic Poetry Haiku Death Match! No registration required.
